Ramos uses the Rome paper to overcome the trouble of Ajax
MADRID: Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has made it clear after the club's match against Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday that the Champions League final is over.
"I am surprised by the interpretation of my comments after the game," Ramos told Spanish daily Marca. "I deliberately took a yellow card to leave the home front."
"I meant the statements, that I was forced to commit the mistake, and I did not intend to deliberately get the yellow card."
"I knew that getting the warning meant my absence from the return game, but I did not have any other solutions to stop a serious attack in the 88th minute."
"I said I would lie if I claimed I did not know the penalty of absence from the return game, if I received the card, but I had no other solution, because football is sometimes forced to make complex decisions."
"If I were absent from Ajax, it was better for me to get the card in front of Roma in the group stage. The team was in the lead, and the last round against CSKA Mosca was not important," Ramos concluded.
The European Union has opened an investigation into Ramos' yellow card, and if the player is found guilty, he may be suspended for more than one match.
Real Madrid beat Ajax 2-1 at the Johan Cruyff Arena and the return leg is expected to be played at Santiago Bernabeu on 5 March.
